My husband and I recently traveled to Chicago and had to check out @the.greenape, an incredible Black-owned, 100% plant-based restaurant in Wicker Park curated by the brilliant Chef Bri.

The moment you walk in, it’s an absolute vibe. The R&B music is flowing, there are gorgeous plants everywhere, and the upscale decor is absolutely impeccable.

Now let’s talk about this food because Chef Bri did NOT disappoint! Her creativity is top-tier. She crafts her own plant-based meats using whole ingredients like mushrooms.

Everything came out piping hot and incredibly fresh.

What we ordered

• Ape Wings: Hot Jungle style, a sweet & spicy mix made with lion’s mane. And yes, she got them so incredibly crispy!
• Wild Birria Tacos: Made with oyster mushrooms and fresh pico.
• Oxtail Plate: Mind-blowing texture, paired with vegan mac, greens, and yams.
• Jungle Ginger Glow Juice: Freshly pressed with lemon, turmeric, ginger, and soursop.
